My Lake Arrowhead Weekend Getaway

I have lived my entire life in Southern California and I sadly have never been to Lake Arrowhead or Big Bear Lake. The funny part about this is that they are only about 45 minutes from my home! This year we decided that we wanted to go on more adventures even if we only traveled to local places because lets be honest, we are on a budget. We decided that we wanted to rent a cabin for three days and go to Lake Arrowhead for the weekend with our best friends.

IMG_1670

We decided to go through Airbnb to rent out our cabin, and I highly recommend them for your cabin rentals. We wanted to be close to the Lake Arrowhead Village but stay within our budget. We found the cutest little cottage that situated 4 adults. We decided not to bring our daughter along with us that weekend, so this house worked out perfectly for us. We do plan on coming back with our daughter, so I will be including some child friendly activities and local suggestions below. I will say that the cabin we rented was amazing, but the owner of the cabin was somewhat “special” . The good thing about Airbnb is that they took care of that issue. Needless to say, we enjoyed our time together on our little weekend getaway in beautiful Lake Arrowhead.

We got to Lake Arrowhead on a Thursday afternoon and luckily the weather was amazing, something we have all been looking forward to for weeks since Southern California has not really had a winter, until recently.  The first stop we made was to Lou Eddies. They have some amazing pizza and it is such a cute little restaurant. They have a small sitting area inside but they have a huge outside sitting area on the upper level and a nice bar on the middle level. But since the weather was so amazing we were able to sit outside! My husband and I ordered an antipasto salad and the yard sale pizza. It was delicious. Definitely a place you must check out.

On Friday we decided to stay in the cabin for the most part we BBQ’d, we had deep fried night , had the fire pit going outside and played board games,  it was such a great time. For your convenience they have a Stater Bros in the village if you want to do grocery shopping, so we were frequent guest to Stater Brothers Markets that weekend.

On Saturday we had breakfast at Hortencia’s Mexican Food. The food was authentic and very delicious. The service was quick and the restaurant was really clean.

We then headed out to the village to explore and do some shopping! I fell in love with the small town it had so much character and such a nice atmosphere. They have a couple of outlets, some of the cutest antique stores. The best part for me was the view of the lake. The lake seems to mostly be private, by that I mean that it’s surrounded by homes and condos. The village is very family friendly and has a cute park named “Lollipop Park”.

IMG_1691

After exploring Lake Arrowhead village we decided to make the trip to Big Bear Lake. It was about a 45 minute drive from Lake Arrowhead and the road was extremely windy  so if you get motion sickness highly recommend you to take medication before heading that way. The views to get to Big Bear Lake are just beautiful. The town in itself was not my favorite to be completely honest. But they do have a lot more shopping options and the town is a lot bigger than Lake Arrowhead, but Lake Arrowhead was just more my style.

IMG_1810

I can say I truly enjoyed my weekend with my best friends and husband. Lake Arrowhead was such a cute town where you can get away and have some quiet time. I loved enjoying bonfires, beautiful sunsets and cute antique shopping. I can’t wait to bring my daughter up during the holidays for Santa Claus Village and for her to explore the quaint little town. Highly recommend you to check it out!

Physicians Formula The Healthy Foundation SPF 20

I am currently on the search for more affordable makeup options and I picked up a few  items that I will be reviewing over the next few weeks for you. The new Physicians Formula Healthy Foundation caught my eye mostly because of the packaging.

52495982.jpg

Physicians Formula The Healthy Foundation SPF 20

This foundation comes in 12 shades which is decent but I do think that area could use some improvement because I had a rough time finding my correct shade. This foundation states that it’s supposed to brighten, hydrate, and even out your skin tone while maintaining a natural look. I have combination skin and currently during winter I tend to be a little on the dry side. I will say that I love the packaging on this foundation! It looks just like the packaging Dior uses on some of their foundations. Love the applicator it is easy to use. I think that at $12.99 it is pretty affordable drug store option. I will say immediately I noticed a weird smell with the foundation it kind of reminded me of the smell of paint. I know that sounds odd but that is just my honest opinion. The smell did not bother me at all because it wasn’t an overpowering smell.

IMG_2510

Here I am with absolutely no makeup just my regular skin care. I like to truly share what my skin looks like with no makeup on because you can really tell if the foundation makes a difference. I have a very uneven skin tone, I have freckles and I have the occasional breakout.

IMG_2509

This is how the foundation looks with no other makeup products on my face. It provides a very natural look but at the same time it is full coverage. The foundation is very matte.

IMG_2508

I chose a very natural makeup look with the foundation. I think I did struggle a little with the shade of the foundation I don’t particularly feel like any of the shades really matched me. I like the coverage and I liked how lightweight it was on my skin. The foundation did not feel moisturizing but it did brighten up my skin tone and evened it up. My makeup lasted all day for the most part. After a long day I did notice that the foundation did start to get a little cakey around my nose. I think that if you are very dry I wouldn’t recommend this foundation due to how matte it is. Overall this is a good foundation for the price. If you look below at the closeup it looks very natural and the rest of my makeup lays nicely on top of the foundation. If you would like for me to review any products leave your suggestions below!

Morphe 15 Piece Vegan Pro Makeup Brush Set Review

My husband bought me these brushes and another set for my birthday back in September and I have been using them non stop! I feel like I have been using them for long enough to give an honest review on them.

morphe-15-piece-vegan-pro-set.jpg

This is one of the brush sets that I decided for. I bought it directly from Morphe and I did use the promo code Jaclyn Hill offers her subscribers when purchasing, it saved me 10 percent. I decided for this particular brush set because I felt like it had a good variety of brushes that I know I would actually use. This particular set comes with a nice travel case like the one pictured above.

IMG_1905

The brushes are decent quality especially for the price. My most used brushes from this set would be the Deluxe Medium Foundation Brush, Deluxe Tapered Powder Brush (I use this for my bronzer), Deluxe Blending Crease Brush, Deluxe Precision Crease Brush, Deluxe Crease Brush, and the Chisel Shader Brush.
IMG_1901I think this is a great set if you don’t have any brushes and are looking for a decent quality yet affordable set. I don’t like that the brushes aren’t numbered. I also don’t  think they feel super high end like other sets they offer but for the price you really can’t beat it. I really love that there is a huge variety and they don’t shed at all unlike other brands I have owned. As you can see above I own tons of brushes and I can say I truly enjoy these.

TARTE Foil Finger Paints Palette Review

I love makeup and I especially love purchasing and trying out new makeup products. I was at Sephora the other day and I just fell in love with the TARTE Foil Finger Paints Shadow Palette – Rainforest of the Sea Collection $39.00.

IMG_1915

Look at the packaging and the colors are just to die for! I love that they are all wearable colors. They are so easy to work with and they are so creamy! I probably own over 20 eyeshadow palettes and this one has been my go to palette lately.

IMG_1537

In the swatches you can tell how creamy the eyeshadow look! These eyeshadows work best applying them with your fingers. I will say that is my only negative. I am a bit weird about using my fingers to apply makeup but these eyeshadows are so good that I am willing to make an exception.

The packaging is so beautiful I really hope that Tarte comes out with more products with the same packaging! The three bigger foil finger paints are more of an eyeshadow consistency the two smaller ones feel like glitter.

IMG_2114I am wearing the lightest color in the palette which is called Gold Coast. I feel like this is a very neutral natural color for everyday use. I find it to be completely appropriate for work or school.

IMG_2115.jpgI am by no means a makeup artist but overall this is a must buy eyeshadow palette. The quality is there and I truly feel like the price is very reasonable at $39.00.

If you would like for me to review any specific items comment below!

Bare Minerals Bare Pro Foundation Review

I love trying out new products and I love buying makeup. I came across this foundation and decided I needed to purchase it and review!  Bare Minerals is mostly known for their powder foundations that to be honest I have not been a fan of in the past. When I saw a liquid foundation I was instantly drawn to it. It comes in 30 shades so I truly feel like almost everyone would be able to find their shade. It states that this foundation is good for the skin and that its supposed to offer a matte and full coverage application for 24 hours. I will show you how I look before makeup and with the foundation on so that you can see the kind of coverage it provides. I will be applying it with my beauty blender.

BAREPRO Performance Wear Liquid Foundation SPF 20 $34.99

IMG_2105So this is how I look without makeup! I have pretty decent skin other than the occasional breakout on my chin area. This is after I had done my complete skin care routine and applied my face primer.

IMG_2130

This is a scary picture but half of my face has the foundation and the other half has none and as you can see the difference is huge!

IMG_2107

So I applied all the foundation and my first impression is that it’s very matte! I have combination skin and do have some dry patches and I noticed that it wasn’t clinging to any of them. It doesn’t emphasize pores either and it’s very lightweight.

So after finishing up my whole makeup application I have to say I truly love this foundation it gives my skin a lightweight feel and it makes my skin feel airbrushed. I think that the price is very reasonable as well especially since it is considered a “high-end brand”. I am very impressed by Bare Minerals and feel like they have really stepped up their make up game! I will leave below all my makeup details. If you would like me to review another foundation let me know suggestions below!

Bobbi Brown Skin Long-Wear Weightless Foundation SPF 15 Review

I was at Sephora the other day and I noticed that Bobbi Brown had came out with a new foundation and of course I had to buy it! I wanted to do a review on this new foundation and give you my honest thoughts on it. This foundation claims to last 16 hours and to have a lightweight matte finish. It runs at $46 which makes it a high end foundation. My expectations are higher I will not lie due to the price tag! Like I said you can find it at Sephora.

IMG_0966

I like to make sure that before I apply any foundation I have a clean canvas and I make sure that I follow my skin care routine. I also have to apply primer before wearing any foundation. Right now my favorite primer is Makeup Forever Hydrating Primer. I have combination skin but since it has been colder my skin tends to be on the dryer side. I love applying my foundation with a damp beauty blender I just feel like coverage is a lot better when I do so. When I do decide to use a brush I like using a flat head kabuki brush.

IMG_0736

This is my picture with no makeup on!

My first impression of the foundation is the smell is strong. The coverage is good and I would say it is full coverage but buildable. It feels lightweight and has creamy consistency. If you look closely at the pictures its a very matte foundation. The pictures below have no filters and I feel like my skin looks pretty flawless. I do set my face with the SEPHORA MicroSmooth Baked Foundation Face Powder with every single foundation that I use so I wanted to do the same thing with this new foundation. I will do a wear test as part of my final thoughts as well.

So this is me after using this foundation all day! I used it from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. which is over 12 hours. I work at an office job but I do go out and about all day and I truly feel like the foundation still looks really good. I did not touch up all day but to be honest I usually tend not to touch up my face! Overall I love the foundation I do wish the smell didn’t have that perfume smell but it’s a great long wearing foundation that I truly feel works well with my combination skin. If you are looking for a “natural” finish I would not recommend this but if you are looking for a high coverage foundation this is a good option for you. This foundation is definitely a keeper for me!

Double Jaw Surgery Essentials

When I was going through this crazy experience there were some things that I just couldn’t live without. I tried to be super prepared before surgery but there was some things that just came up that I wish I would of had. I am listing and linking some of the items that I personally bought myself for the recovery of my surgery. There is some things that I will not be linking but I will mention below! I hope this helps you out if you are about to go through this kind of surgery.

Vicks Filter-free, Ultrasonic, Visible Cool Mist Humidifier for Medium rooms

Trust me when I say you will need a humidifier by your side when you are recovering. You will be so congested this will completely help the recovery. I loved adding essential oils to the water to help me relax.

Ninja Professional Blender with Nutri Ninja Cups (BL660)

Do yourself a favor and purchase yourself a blender. I wasn’t able to chew for a solid 5 months. I had to blend a lot of my food. I will say one of my not so proud moments was when I wanted a Chipotle bowl so bad that I threw it al in the blender just so that I could eat it.

Afrin Original Pump Nasal Mist, Fast & Powerful Congestion Relief, 0.5oz (15mL)

This was a huge life saver!! You can only spray this I believe once a day but trust me its enough. Truly clears up your nasal passage and helps breathing.

Vaseline 100% Pure Petroleum Jelly, Original Skin Protectant, 13 Oz (Pack of 2)

I bought a very expensive lip balm before surgery that was useless! The only thing you need is vaseline. Your lips will crack. My lips got so swollen and cracked so badly they bled. Not trying to scare you but having the vaseline and humidifier by your side will be a lifesaver.

Reusable Ice Pack with Strap by TheraPAQ – Soft & Flexible Gel Pack for Hot & Cold Therapy – Best as Heat Pad or Cold Wrap for Back, Knee, Waist, Shoulder, Ankle, Calves and Hip (Large pack: 14″ X 6″)

This is supposed to be for wrapping around the knee but this works wonders for wrapping around your face. It is the perfect size to put around your face. I bought multiples of these so that I would always have one available.

Fire HD 8 Tablet with Alexa, 8″ HD Display, 16 GB, Black – with Special Offers

You might not want to buy this specific tablet like I did but you need something to entertain you. I was not able to talk for 4 weeks!! This was just the thing I needed along with my television. This one is inexpensive and was quite impressed with the quality. I am an Apple girl but I just couldn’t bring myself to fork out the money for an iPad.

Premier Protein 30g Protein Shakes, Chocolate, 11 Fluid Ounces, 4 Count

You must have a meal plan before going into this surgery. I was fully banded shut so I was not able to open my mouth at all. I had to fit everything through a catheter and syringe. A smoothie wouldn’t even go through the catheter. These protein drinks have the right ingredients, the taste is great and the most important thing is the liquid actually fits through the catheter trip.

Dr. Brown’s Long Spatula Spoons – 4pk

When you actually start eating you will realize that you won’t be able to fit an actual spoon or fork in your mouth. I started eating soft food and found myself truly struggling because I just couldn’t fit it in my mouth. I googled flat spoons and baby spoons came up. I ordered these and problem solved. They fit perfectly in my mouth and I was actually able to eat!

You will also need a recliner or very comfortable chair that you can sleep on. I could not sleep in my bed for the first 6 weeks. I tried sleeping in my bed once and I woke up super swollen. I also recommend you purchase very comfortable pillows you will just want to sleep with anything that will be comfortable. Before surgery I am sure you will be able to pick up all the needed medications trust me you will want to have those ready when you come home. Now the #1 thing you will need through this whole process is help from someone. You can not do this alone and you need someone who is with you 24/7 the first 2 weeks of recovery. I do not know what I would done without my sweet husband and mother. It is a rough surgery and you need all the help you can get!

I hope this helps you if you are about to endure this rough surgery!
